Regular income from employment offers economic
security for households, helping people to escape
poverty. This particularly applies to girls and women,
who are among the most economically vulnerable in
society, especially in impoverished rural and urban
areas. As such, Bhagria Foundation’s country strategic
program targets to give girls vocational training, and
to help so many women work their way out of poverty.
Gender mainstreaming is an integral component of “Atam
Nirbhar” Training Program, having a specific focus on
girls and weaker section of the society.
The “Atam Nirbhar” Training Program promotes skills
development to adult young people from disadvantaged
rural and urban communities in and around urban and
rural areas. We offers training over work-place
communication skill, English language learning, basic
computer education, personal development and life
skills.
“Atam Nirbhar” Training Program focuses to provide
self-employment/ entrepreneurship promotion in rural
context. This refers to all processes and trainings
undertaken under “Atam Nirbhar” Training Program to
provide youth access to Vocational Training to promote
entrepreneurship also interchangeably referred to as
self-employment opportunities.
As well as promoting job-oriented, vocational and
entrepreneurship training, “Atam Nirbhar” Training
Program helps to teach parents, communities, and
employers about gender equality, equal opportunities
and economic empowerment for girls, as gender equality
is embedded in all the courses.
“Atam Nirbhar” Training Program uses several key
approaches. Initially, a thorough market study
identifies potential trades for vocational training.
Local employers in these sectors are then targeted,
who provide requirements on which basis the training
courses are designed and developed.
Bhagria Foundation creates awareness among youth about
job and self-employment opportunities in the market
and provides career counselling, as well as engaging
with families, communities, and employers to foster
gender equity, equal opportunities and economic
empowerment of young girls. Youth from disadvantaged
families of the project area are then given the
opportunity to undertake the vocational and life
skills training, before being offered job placements
and post-job placement follow-up support. Youth alumni
networks are also promoted to combat unemployment and
underemployment issues.
As a result, “Atam Nirbhar” Training Program has
established credibility in local communities. It
generates awareness among diverse groups about the
importance of economic empowerment for girls, which
has led to more and more enrolling in “Atam Nirbhar”
Training Program. There is also an increased demand
from local employers for “Atam Nirbhar” Training
Program-trained youth.
